Retire Downtown

Columbia was recognized in Kyle Ezell's book - Retire Downtown "The Lifestyle Destination for Active Retirees and Empty Nesters"

In the book it says:
Columbia
This one of the southeastern's most exciting small cities, and a "Downtown to Watch" near miss. See more about what's happening at City Center Partnership, Inc's web site at www.citycentercolumbia.sc and click "Live Downtown."

My wife and I moved here from Florida when our kids moved out and we love it here! We both take classes at the university, enjoy the arts, and love the people.

I have an opportunity to move to Columbia, SC from Pittsburgh, PA. What do you think of Columbia as a place to raise children (7yrs old). I am concerned about good public schools, crime rates, things to do for fun/recreation.

Although the schools in Columbia are not great, a suburb called Lexington is excellent. This area is a growing area and is located by Lake Murray. The quality of life in the Columbia is great and the city is nice - but schools are marginal at best. The inner city living has grown with young professionals and empty nesters.
